About Airsoft Events: Frequently Asked Questions

Are you thinking about getting into airsoft and joining an airsoft event for the first time?
Buckle up, we’re going to try to answer some of your questions.
Are There Airsoft Events in My State?
Yes, there are airsoft arenas, and therefore events, in every state, though some have many more than others.
Visit a shop or consult with a friend that plays airsoft to get recommendations or learn more.
Can a 12-Year-Old Play Airsoft?
You’re the parent. If you think your 12-year-old is mature enough and ready to play airsoft, then yes, he or she can play.
Just be aware that some airsoft arenas might have special regulations for younger players.
Can a 10-Year-Old Play Airsoft?
Let us stop you right there before we have to answer this question 18 times. There are no laws regarding the age of participation in airsoft.
So, if you think your 10-year-old is ready, he or she can play.
Again, specific airsoft arenas might have rules about underage players. Some airsoft fields require players under a certain age to wear a full facemask, for instance.
What Do I Need to Get Started Playing Airsoft?
Great question. At minimum, you need the will to play, an airsoft gun (plus a battery or gas and ammo) face protection (goggles, at minimum), and an airsoft event in which you want to participate.
However, you might also want to carry:
- A tactical vest
- A sidearm in a holster
- Spare ammo and carriers
- Spare gas or batteries
- Airsoft attachments specific to your airsoft gun
- A knife or multitool
- A flashlight
- Protective clothing and gloves
- And supportive footwear
Is Airsoft Painful?
Airsoft is not particularly painful but up close, yes, it stings. Airsoft ammo also carries enough kinetic energy to chip a tooth or injure your eyes, so you should consider wearing a full facemask or wear goggles and a mouthguard.
Airsoft arenas won’t let you participate without the proper protective equipment anyway.
How Must Does It Cost to Play Airsoft?
That depends on the airsoft event, but considering the cost to participate only and not factoring in the cost of gear, most airsoft events charge between $10 and $300.
Really, it depends on the event, and like most things in life, it can be as expensive or as affordable as you make it.
What Do I Need to Bring to an Airsoft Event?
In addition to the airsoft gear mentioned in the section above, there are a number of other things you should bring to an airsoft event, including but not limited to:
- A change of clothing
- Waterproof gear
- Field gear, if the airsoft event will take place over multiple days
- Spare cash
- Food and water
- Kill rags
- And appropriate camo/uniforms for your team
If you have questions about what specifically you need to bring to an event, communicate with the organizer ahead of time.
What Is the Difference Between MilSim and Airosft Events?
Simply, all MilSim events (at least airsoft ones) are airsoft events, but not all airsoft events are MilSim events.
MilSim stands for Military Simulation and is designed to closely replicate combat situations for training purposes.
Airsoft events may be MilSim events, but not all of them are.
